I lived in the Hague for about 6 months. I laughed until I cried at your October post about rainy weather, Dutch 1980's music and the supermarkets. So it wasn't just my American prejudices...you think it's gloomy stuff too. The other thing I remember music in Dutch supermarkets was when I passed a display in Albert Heijns playing America rap music so vulgar that it stopped my breath. I wondered then if the Dutch assumed this sort of speech was acceptable to most Americans (it's not) or perhaps didn't understand the depth of the vulgarity behind the slang. kate in NJ (ip:69.141.180.234) 18 October 2004 - 1:50 uur Comment
