Can you tell us more about Frits Barend, theleft-wing talk show host, and why is he marked for murder by the Islamofascists? One of the criticisms I have heard of the European left, from Andrew Sullivan and others, is that its members have been slow to recognize the dangers of radical Islam. There is some trut in that. The left is quick to stand up for secular government, and the rights of gays and other minorities, but then conveniently ignores the homophobia and rascism of mideast theocrats. What sets Barend apart from other leftists? Thanks! Heraldblog (ip:65.30.178.241) 5 November 2004 - 15:11 uur Well, these people are even willing to kill their fellow Muslims - look at all the terrorist attacks in Iraq, Indonesia, Morocco - but admittedly I was surprised that Barend made it to their list. It turns out that Barend hosted a program two years ago in which Hirsi Ali was a guest (http://www.nrc.nl/binnenland/artikel/1032325047839.html). At the time, he got threatened as well. Also, Barend is a rather famous Jewish family name in the Netherlands, although I'm not entirely sure if he's part of that. Barend and Van Gogh weren't even friends: Van Gogh once called him 'a partial illiterate who inhales other people's opinions like a suffocating fish'. Neither is Barend much different from other left-wing people but that's just my redneck point of view ;-) Apparently you don't even need to agree with Hirsi Ali in order to get on a hit list, you just need to provide her with a forum. If that doesn't show how the attack on Van Gogh was an attack on any Dutch person even remotely fond of his freedom of expression, I don't know what will.
