Sounds like something Hollywood Michael Moore and his blame-America first crowd would say. What I find disturbing is that it reminds me of world reaction to Islamic Fascism. Twenty years ago Islamic Fascist would simply hijack planes to get what they want, today they evolved into hijacking planes for use in ramming into civilian buildings killing thousands in an instant. Today, we have people here in America who are defending the perpetuation of Islamic Fascism under their guise of so-called peace. An artist was stab and shot for making a film exposing horrific treatment of Islamic females by an Islamic Fascist openly on the streets of Amsterdam yet this event is treated with insignificance by many around the world. Many 'artists' here in America are more concerned with their botox injections than they are with the implications of Van Gogh's murder. The implications of this event are quite disturbing to me. syn (ip:68.174.96.173) 5 November 2004 - 14:03 uur hear hear, totally agree with syn. tzar (ip:217.77.152.31) 5 November 2004 - 15:24 uur wow...this story is quite disturbing. welcome to the reality of islamic terrorism. i certainly hope your government is able to deal with this swiftly and efficiently. god bless van gogh's soul. Jason -- USA (ip:24.95.89.189) 5 November 2004 - 15:39 uur Being a Moroccan woman myself, I can't even begin to express the extent of outrage and sorrow I feel in my heart for the loss of Theo Van Gogh. Theo is my hero now and forever! I don't particularly see him as a freedom fighter, he merely expressed himself about the absurdity of certain misguided traditions disguised as Islamic, which are designed to keep the Muslim woman down for the benefit of the extremist Muslim male. No one is to blame for Theo's death except the vicious murderer who took his life. Taking someone's life is NEVER the answer! I do have to say that I don't agree with Hirsi Ali's approach on Islamic issues. She started out with the righteous intent to fight for women's rights, but she got carried away with her own personal vendetta against Islam. She's not doing me or any Muslim woman for that matter any favors. We all have our own issues we're dealing with on a day to day basis, but there are many ways to go about things to produce positive results. Using sex as a means to get her point across with "Submission" is more than a tad overboard if you ask me. It's outright malicious, especially given the times we live in and the issues at hand. Her statements are harsh and confrontational in a negative way and only meant to ignite anger and frustration. As a politician she had the perfect opportunity to seek diplomacy to create dialogue and understanding in order to pave the road to integration and assimilation, rather than alienation, terror and death. Of course I can only judge from the other side of the fence. As a Dutch citizen my heart bleeds for the country's current state of affairs, and as a human being I only wish and pray for the best. Myrtus (ip:205.188.116.5) 5 November 2004 - 16:08 uur Dialogue with someone who has no problem slitting your throat? Yeah, right. The only way to stop the insanity is to be confrontational and confront it. William (ip:68.158.168.21) 5 November 2004 - 17:26 uur Well, all of the birds are coming home to roost now. Theo van Gogh was an obnoxious, loudmouthed ranter, with little sense of style. But these mohammadans are way over the top. Jews, Christians, Buddhists, atheists, everyone else puts up with having their ideas ridiculed and defamed WITHOUT RESORTING TO VIOLENCE. However, this sort of thing is sanctioned by mohammadans, there's even a story about some Arabian poetess who ridicules that disgusting pedophile mohammad and is slain by one of his followers. The scumbag psycopath then tells his follower , who is feeling guilty, that it means nothing. My question to the Nederlanders from across the pond is, what are you going to do about it? You guys have opened the gates of your country to american (ip:192.149.105.50) 5 November 2004 - 18:57 uur As a US citizen whose forefathers hailed from europe and one with a lifetime of great admiration for the brilliant Dutch people and it's fantastic society- let me say that Theo's death will not remain un-answered. Pato (ip:24.130.248.126) 5 November 2004 - 21:45 uur @Pato: good to hear :) I enjoy visiting the USA (especially California, too bad I can't live in two countries :-)). The journalist got released the same day, but he will be fined. I am actually thinking about making a T-shirt about the mural incident. Oh, as for the Gloch: our gun laws are rather stringent ;-) Arjan (ip:82.161.93.35) 5 November 2004 - 23:22 uur The fact is that Islam is intolerant. Period. When Muslims say they are "tolerant" they mean they might let you live as second or third class citizens. Anywhere Muslims dominate they discriminate against other religions, women, gays and any other group they choose. If Muslims ever dominate any European country, expect the worse, because it will happen. All human rights we in the West take for granted will be thrown out. Forget equality laws, and say good-bye to your pensions, too. Even so-called moderate muslims are in denial, and cannot be honest about the many problems with Islam and it prophet. Just try to talk with a Muslim about the historical aspects of Muhammuds life (slavery, wars, executions, murder, 9 year old girls, etc...) even if using Muslims records and writings and see what happens.
