International developments and press roundup

• The Wall Street Journal mentions the possibility of a Spanish connection. Apparently, Spanish police are investigating whether terrorists residing in their country ordered Van Gogh's assassination. The article isn't online (at least not for free), but a Dutch version can be found here.

• The Christian Science Monitor mentions there are apparently imams who tell their flock they don't need to pay taxes. This could actually bridge the gap with the native Dutch... ;-)

• The New York Times explores the possibility of Al Qaeda links.

• In Belgium, the government is taking stern measures to combat radical Islamism. Radio stations and websites that promote hatred will be closed, radical imams will be denied entry to the country, and fanatical Islamic organizations disbanded, according to proposals that are up for debate today.

It is very interesting to hear about Belgium cracking down. Isn't that the same country who wanted the power to imprisoner and try American, er, I mean, foreign soldiers?

But seriously, you guys in the Netherlands are at the fore-front of what needs to be happening in Europe (and America). Why do we have to change our culture just to make someone else comfortable? If they like their culture so much, why not stay where they were?

Hoi Arjan,
As I said before, you have a great site. Being Dutch and living in the US the site gives me a good window into the recent events in Holland. I've noticed that most of the responses come from the US. I wish more Dutch people would visit your site, they really need to!! Tolerance has run amok in Holland.

I finally managed to download and watch Submission via another site;

http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/003840.php#comments

I was impressed and saddened. I am a domestic violence counselor and this short film is also a testimony to the issue of domestic violence.

I would recommend that you put up a link (like your link to andrew sullivan)on your page to

www.jihadwatch.org

This site has a link to dhimmi watch as well. Both are very educational.

Another good site is;

I've been trying to get a discussion going on the BBC's website about the consequences for us all in Europe following the murder of Theo Van Gogh. Unfortunately, the liberal elite don't want too many people thinking outside of the carefully-constructed box that they want their consumers to live in.

For example – after all the incessant anti-Bush propaganda that we've been subjected too, what do we find upcoming on our TV screens but this…

I Won’t Marry White: One-off documentary following three young British Asians looking for love but struggling with pressure from their religion and their families.
followed by;
Putting the Fun in Fundamental: Documentary series. Elliott Gerner takes a light-hearted look at America’s religious extremists.

Ha-ha, what a laugh. More piss-takes of those kooky Yankee Christians. Pity we can't have an offbeat look at those lovable Jihadists and the way they playfully try to sever people's heads off.

Ooops, don't want too much blood on the streets of London now, do we chaps…

@ Josie: Submission can be downloaded through this site as well. For those of you who are interested, take a look at http://www.zachtei.nl/2004/11/06/000443.html

How long before European media blames those 'Ring-wing BushCo fundamentalist eating- babies-for-breakfast Jesusfreaks' for this human rights violation of Mohamned B's suppression of religious freedom.

Of course, I live in NYC where I face the possibility that some 490,000 Bush-hating voters might beat me to a pulp should they ever hear the words: I voted Bush.

Thanks for mentioning the articles from the WTimes and the WSJ. Mr. Leon de Winter, probably not entirely coincidentally, is a columnist with the same weekly I write for. The NYT editorial was blasted on this site here http://www.zachtei.nl/2004/11/05/000432.html ;-)
