Update on anti-terror action

• Even more police have arrived in The Hague from Amsterdam and all over the country. I don't think I've seen this much police in one location ever before.
• Police have climbed the roofs.
• A 'number of suspects' are in a house on the Antheunisstraat.
• Surrounding houses have been evacuated.
• One police officer turns out to have been severely wounded.

An action using force seems imminent. Unfortunately, I have to drive to Utrecht in a few minutes. I'll try to keep you posted as best as I can.

• In Utrecht now, where there's WLAN. Here are some pictures of the area.

Thanks for all your updates on what may well be the most significant week in European history for several decades.

I want to post an article that has appeared in today's Daily Telegraph. I know that it it is a virulently right-wing paper, but, unfortunately, the liberal-left in the UK are so hysterical in their anti-Bush/Blair/Sharon rhetoric that they've completely lost sight of who the true enemy is.

Steve, may I politely request that the next time, you will just post the link? This constitutes a copyright infringement.

Thank you for providing us with insight as to what is happening over there. We, in the States, haven't been allowed (?) to know what is going on with regards to this situation. Our main stream media have not felt that this incident and the aftershocks of the event are of importance to us. It would seem to me that this information is critical to our understanding the issue of Islamo Fascisim and its spread around the world. The appeasers must understand that these people cannot be appeased. As to your quoting of a famous poem from one of your own let me quote something from one of ours: "As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air however slight lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness." William O. Douglas, Supreme Court Justice.

Again, many thanks.

I never thought I'd see this occuring in the Netherlands. I figured we'd first see it happen in places like Saint-Denis or Evry. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for you!

Non-confirmed reports say there are tanks on their way to the Hague :/

Steve E,

The epithet "virulently right-wing" fits the British National Party (BNP), not the Daily Telegraph, which is simply the greatest newspaper in the world.

tictoc (ip:217.234.20.93) 10 November 2004 - 14:58 uur

Well, for an ol' leftie like myself, the Telegraph was always the ‘Torygraph’. However, columnists such as Mark Steyn have marked the paper out as an essential read if you want to avoid the attitudes espoused by dhimmi-rags such as The Guardian.
The war has made very strange bed-fellows out of some of us.

We are getting some coverage of the Theo Van Gogh fallout here in the U.S. However, with our troops in combat in Fallujah, and with the resignations/reorganization of the Bush cabinet all happening this week, the Van Gogh murder fallout has been getting a 1-2 minutes spot on CNN, and such.

Yes, here in SoCal you'll find local rags covering the backstory as well as the developments, but not as often as you'd like. On TV I noticed some coverage of the affair, so I think its unfair to say we're 'not allowed'. I understand the 'mainstream media' point though and agree to some extent. These days most folks have net access, and that's always the way to go for more and better info (if you know where to look). Rags are good as entry points. Oh, and The Telegraph isn't far right. It's just on the right - how far or near depends on the issue.Nex

Good luck Holland...do not let the muzzies have their way.

A lot of people were worried that no action would be taken, so this is a good thing. Let us all hope that it is successful and no more police are hurt.

Our condolences to the Dutch people on the recent death of Theo van Gogh. Here in USA, FOX News has been where I've seen the most TV coverage of what's going down in the Netherlands. Newspapers and especially blogs have been on it though.

We run a daily newsite for black moderates and black conservatives (Booker Rising), and we are HUGE Ayaan Hirsi Ali fans. We regularly blog about her work. Too bad that she has had to go into hiding, for exercising free speech. Here is what we posted today, in support of her efforts:

http://bookerrising.blogspot.com/2004/11/netherlands-see-why-ayaan-hirsi-ali-is.html

I liked the UK Daily Telegraph story that Steve posted above, as it provides insights (for me) into Dutch history. Our thoughts are with the Dutch people in this time of trial!

I am so glad to have found this site, it's a beacon of common sense in the madness that threatens to engulf Holland right now. I'm not sure of the id of the host, but cheers to ya anyway.

Is it so that The Hague siege has ended? Have you any more updates?

Now you are on my regular visits to the blogosphere, where our site - viewropa.com - is also engaged in debate about the whole islamofascism/phobia debate, amongst other european subjects.

Today, Nov 10, protein wisdom blog had a link to the story on Zacht ei, which is how I found it. Thank you for the information and images.

Since I know absolutely no Dutch, would someone translate 'Weet u het nog?' for me?

Thanks in advance.

conelrad (ip:24.74.139.128) 10 November 2004 - 21:58 uur

'Weet u het nog?'
=
'Do you still remember?'

Sounds a little like 'Never forget', doesn't it?

Frank (ip:212.68.231.200) 10 November 2004 - 22:14 uur

Conelrad,

"Weet u het nog" literally means 'do you still know?' but more likely it means something like 'do you still remember?", depending on the context of the senctence. Does this translation make sense?

josie (ip:69.163.3.146) 10 November 2004 - 22:16 uur

As a Dutchman living in the US, I am glad that the problem is finally being dealt with.
Were it up to me, I'd toss ALL their asses out.

wisco kid (ip:204.246.4.166) 10 November 2004 - 22:24 uur

Frank and josie: Thanks for the translations. I wondered if it meant something like that.

There's a song here in America, 'Have You Forgotten?', so I can grasp the meaning.

conelrad (ip:24.74.139.128) 10 November 2004 - 22:27 uur

We have a song here as well. You can find it on http://stream.2003.02.garnierprojects.com/media538/fragmenten/20041102_zinloos.wma Updates soon.

Whoever links to White Pride-related sites is a sicko to me. Nothing to see here. Move on.

From someone who was at the Pentagon on Sept. 11th
and who still works there, to the Dutch People and their Government:

WELCOME TO THE FIGHT!

Together I know we will win!

David All (ip:141.116.55.25) 10 November 2004 - 0:28 uur

@Arthur: what on earth are you referring to?The GeenStijl links? That blog is constantly *criticizing* and *exposing* Dutch politician Michiel Smit for allegedly having connections with groups like the one you mention.

Arjan (ip:82.161.93.35) 10 November 2004 - 0:32 uur

>That blog is constantly *criticizing* and >*exposing* Dutch

Is it? http://www.geenstijl.nl/paginas/michielsmit/

Arthur (ip:156.34.80.244) 10 November 2004 - 0:49 uur

Look, if you don't want to believe me, don't. The url you mention was an accompaniment to a critical article about Michiel Smit, http://www.geenstijl.nl/mt/archieven/002340.html But if you want to debate GeenStijl policy, perhaps their forum is a better place, as this website has nothing to do with them. The url you mention wasn't even linked to from this site until now, although thanks to you, now it is.

Arjan (ip:82.161.93.35) 10 November 2004 - 0:58 uur

I suppose I'll try to learn some Dutch. I have been to your country on several occasions and have always enjoyed myself. I am saddened and horrified by this crime but I do hope it brings a change in attitude and a wake-up to the Dutch.

As a New Yorker I can tell you - many of us, but certainly not all even now, have become aware of the enemy. I hope you can avoid such a fate, I wish we had done so earlier.

Pogue Mahone (ip:166.68.134.175) 10 November 2004 - 23:04 uur

Well, Systransoft.com offers limited Dutch-English translation facilities. This blog will remain in English. Unfortunately, most sources are just not available in that language.
