Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry I really appreciate your blog. I'm fascinated by the van Gogh assassination and the events that followed but I don't speak Dutch and the US media is ignoring this story for their own reason (it doesn't fit their worldview, they're lazy, know nothing about Holland and don't want to learn, etc.). The past 10 days have seen many Big Events: the US election, the battle to retake Falluja, the death of Arafat. But the murder of van Gogh may be the most important of any of these. Historians may look back on this as a turning point, certainly for Holland but also for the West in its struggle against the global jihadist movement. I was only in Holland twice in 1992 and 1993 but I cannot believe the images I am seeing now. Not just the police siege and the fires, but the sheer number of Muslim women in Rotterdam and Amsterdam wearing the hijab or the niqab. Those are stunning images for an American like myself. I probably see 5-10 women a week with the headscarf and only a few a year with the full face covering. I can only remember seeing a few Muslim men in a traditional gown or long robe ever. Keep up the good work and know that many of us Americans are keeping you and the Dutch in our thoughts.
