Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry An odd concept of "free speech" (or rather "freeish speech") is what the Index of Censorhip keepers maintain over there.. In their quest of getting to the "consequences of free speech" they provide justification for the threats on Salman Rushdie, Ms. Hirsi Ali and others. "Our" traditional religious beliefs here in Europe have had to get accustomed to blashpemy - becuase it'S the right of expression in a secular society. Those who feel offended by such a program or performance need only to turn off the TV set or not to buy a movie or theater ticket. This reaches the point where the rest has the "Thank" the keepers of the "holy belief" for their deeds - just DISGUSTING. I sincerely hope that all these barbaric acts will have the consequences of steeling our beliefs and becoming more courageous in upholding OUR VALUES - which are the values of freedom of speech and expression. Isn't it odd that some of our whining "appeasement society" seems to actually prefer all these barbaric medieval values to the one of a post-industrial, WESTERN SOCIETY ? As in all these other sets of values are not just as equally acceptable, they are in fact better ? I flatly refuse to go down this path. Judging from the pathetic reactions of some of your Groen-Links MPs and spokespeople I infer that some already started.. best rgrds and thanx again for your site BTW - Arjan, wanted to laud your detailed reply on Dutch politics and the situation. I have always had great sympathy for your Libertarian climate in the Netherlands and it would be a shock to me if this nuance would be lost becuase of tragic incidents... I wish you all the best in Jordan - may you get back safely ! MAXX (ip:80.108.31.227) 12 November 2004 - 14:52 uur Irony my ass. The man is a spineless toady who only has the balls to confront dead men, not living ones who can call him out for what he is: a petty little man frightened of the world and those who are critically engaged in it. But that's just what I think.
