Ugliest Christmas tree in the world on Dam Square

I walked by it yesterday and took a picture of what is definitely the worst Christmas tree I've seen in my life. However, my SonyEricsson P900 probably repressed it, like you tend to do with disasters, because the picture was gone when I wanted to copy it to my computer yesterday night. Fortunately, newspaper De Telegraaf has one online here.

Wow, sorry about your tree.
In Canada we have about 1,000 trees for every person and take pretty ones for granted. This one looks like it fell of the truck on the way from the woods and got driven over by 100 cars.
Maybe there's enough garland and lights in Amsterdam to cover the bad spots? It's not like you can turn the bad side into the corner. Yikes.
Merry Christmas though.
Love your site, it keeps me involved with Amsterdam.
Your English writing is very good.
Good luck with the career!

Good grief!! That is the most pathetic tree I have ever seen! (Maybe they are putting up a sick tree so as to to 'offend' any non-Christian?)

The entire city is up in arms about it, and the radio station that paid for it will give away free Christmas trees to make up for their blunder. This tree apparently got damaged severely during transport, and there wasn't time to get a new one. Or at least that's what they say.

That surely is the sorriest excuse for a tree I've ever seen. Do you mean to say that in the whole of The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and points north you couldn't find a better looking specimen than that poor thing. He's the tree who was the ugly sapling in the forest and everybody laughed at him when he dreamed of growing up and becoming a star in the middle of the town square with beautiful lights all over him. All the other tress fell over laughing and when the woodcutter came to pick a tree, the only one standing was our pathetic little fir. No matter, off he went and now, his little dream is fulfilled; he's going to be the star tree in the center of the town square and all the other trees are laughing out of the other side of their branches. He may not be pretty but he has HEART! And our poor little tree is now beaming and brimming with Christmas Cheer and wants to wish you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
