There is nothing worse than statistics, there is nothing better than statistics. It's not exactly the best of times/worst of times, but I have found it to be true.

Without a doubt, statistics and regression analysis were the single most annoying courses I ever had, and the most useful. Except for straight math, goddamned statistics have been so useful I am now of the opinion that they should be taught all four years of high school* and be requirements for living in the modern world.

What subject could give you a better understanding of nuance? What subject could possibly prepare you for multiple concepts of truth, lies and uncertainty? Outside of my native philosophy, I can think of none. And philosophy -and I say this as a philosopher- is far less useful.

The world would be made better with statistical analysis given to everyone. Of this I am certain. What a horrible and wonderful thing.

*- American high school, obviously.
