So sign the bloody McCain Amendment

'Worried about the potential for anti-American feelings over the incident, the State Department said it instructed U.S. embassies around the globe to tell local governments that the reported abuse did not reflect American values.'

Yeez. Of course, when Bush signs the McCain Amendment the press will make a big deal about how 'America has been humbled' (fill in usual rants about hubris, usw usf). But is that really so important as to not do the right thing?

There is more to this story than the journalist shows.

And just take a good look at the picture: the body and the shadows of the soldiers standing next to it, no way this body's head is facing west.

Besides, does anyone remember the 4 contractors in Iraq that were killed and burned? Ofcourse they are infidels and so nobody should get enraged about them. It seems to me that some muslims are hypocrites.

I do remember those four and deplore both their death and the manner in which it was celebrated by some in the Muslim world. But I refuse to let bigots of any religion determine my moral standards.

And you're right; this may turn out to be a case of media hype rather than an act of gross insensitivity. But either way, adopting the McCain amendment is not just the right thing to do, but would also signal the American commitment to treating its prisoners humanely.

God help us, but with His help we must always try to be better than are. We should renounce torture as a matter of principle. Killing a man, whether in battle or as condign punishment, does not reduce his essential dignity. Torturing him does. This is an especially sensitive issue with us, given our history with the native American Indians.
