And in more important news |

They've now started shooting at government officials in the Netherlands. Ms Verdonk, secretary of Immigration, was the target.
Update 5/11, 23.10: the NFI (Dutch Forensic Institute) has announced that it wasn't a bullet that damaged Ms Verdonk's office window, contradicting an earlier statement by the prime minister, which has since been withdrawn. They still don't know what did cause the damage.

Excuse me Arjan, but I don't think this is important news. If a minster is shot, it would be. If a a buidling is shot - a lá the Quote headquarters - it would be. In this case the damaged window could well be the result of a little stone, 'fired' by a passing tram. If you want French situations here, you must encourage politicians and cabinet members to react on this 'news' as they did.

Excuse me David, but EU scare tactics ('Don't do this if you don't want the country to go up in flames') are really beneath you.
Of course it is important when the prime minister indicates they took a shot at the window of the office of an embattled minister. Just as it was important when they shot the building of a certain business publication.
Now it turns out it was all probably untrue, meaning that Balkenende should have shut up (I'd prefer forever, but hey, can't win them all) when he didn't. That doesn't negate the fact that the issue was worth mentioning.
And by the way: if I could encourage politicians to do anything, I wouldn't dare to write anymore ;)
