Thanks for the link. This Brit already speaks Dutch and thus is able to understand it. I would also urge more people to learn Dutch, especially English-speaking people. I found it most illuminating to discover the opinions and customs of a people first hand. As an intellectual exercise it is useful, and it served as a useful shortcut to other Germanic languages. I can even converse with my wife's relatives on the Flemish side - just!

Having said all that, I think textbooks should come with a health warning: Dutch can change without warning at regular intervals. By the time I found that out, it was too late to go back. I'm off then to eat my Saturday _pannenkoek_ )with bacon of course).
