Thanks for your english language blog! Here in the USA we've been so focused on our election that we haven't fully grasped the meaning of the Van Gogh assassination. Thanks for your courage, and thanks for helping us gain a better understanding of this tragedy in Holland, Europe and all the world.
Jerry Joplin (ip:67.10.9.217) 6 November 2004 - 0:45 uur Gee,that would sure make the Nederlands one of the more progressive Eurostates at the moment. We figured out that the position of bending over and grabbing your ankles in response to murder wasn't such a hot idea 9/11/2001. I just thought Europe was going to see if it could stay under the Islamofascist radar long enough for America to take all the heat. Icarus (ip:64.12.116.5) 6 November 2004 - 1:10 uur I'm an American, a Bush supporter and a supporter of President Bush's war on Terrorism. I know many Europeans and Dutch dislike America's policies and believe Bush is wrong in attacking terrorists instead of negotiating with them. Events like this murder, and the murder of Pim Fortyn are not going to stop. They are going to get worse, in Europe, in Netherlands, unless the Europeans JOIN us in our struggle against Islamofascists. You may notice, since 9/11 there have been no attacks on American soil. Join us in the battle. Bush is right. Chirac is wrong. docweasel (ip:170.224.224.156) 6 November 2004 - 2:04 uur Any chance of boots on the ground in Chechnia? This seems to be a critical front, and Russian forces have chinks that prevent them from total success there. I've wondered about an American expedition, but suspect the politics could never work. But a small country with a clear grievance could storm the Assasin's camps without bothering the Bear. Ripper (ip:64.252.150.126) 6 November 2004 - 3:27 uur What a terrible thing. An Islamofascist killed Mr. Van Gogh. Well, you EU PC apologists, the US lost around 3000 human lives on September 11. I don't know how Europeans value human life, but I can tell you, those of us in the US hold life very dear. I suggest to you, come to New York, and look at where the Twins Towers USED TO BE. And then ask us why we re-elected George Bush. Then ask why the French government supports PLO terrorist groups. We are not going to put up with the shit that Annan or Charac want to do. Frankly, we don't expect any help from the EU. We will win the war against islamic terrorism with the help of our allies in Iraq. Just don't expect America to pull your asses out of the fire. There are already too many GIs buried in France. Sincerely,
jorma (ip:207.69.13.78) 6 November 2004 - 3:47 uur Isn't it comforting to know that, according to most defenders of the Muslim faith, "Islam is a peaceful religion"? We can only imagine how things would be if defenders of the Muslim faith proclaimed "Islam is a religion of WAR, bigotry, suppression of women, intolerance of any other religious thoughts and expressions and the deepest hatred of Jews"! BTW, we lived in Soest from 1973 to 1978 and still have a huge soft spot for any and all things Dutch... The best memories of my life. I loved it when it finally came to be that Dutch used to turn to ME and ask where something was! It meant that I finally acted and LOOKED Dutch enough to fit in! Sandra C. (ip:68.1.39.133) 6 November 2004 - 4:47 uur I came from the Andrew Sullivan site, but I am going to stay because of your thoroughly excellent content. Congrats on a fantastic blogging venture. I will continue to read your place here. Please continue to write, it's refreshing to read a sane and intelligent Dutchman after watching the insanity of your government and intelligentsia. Bravo, sir. James Versluys (ip:69.151.200.226) 6 November 2004 - 6:03 uur What I want to know is if filmmakers worldwide will actually comment on and condemn the murder of a filmmaker who made a film extolling and defending womens' rights. A lot fof the film community worldwide speaks often of the cause of womens' rights, and for artistic freedom. This murder should be a shock and a rallying cry to artists everywhere.
