Nearly a third of Dutch Muslims against closure of radical schools

'Nearly 70 percent' of Dutch Muslims want to close radical Islamic schools. That sounds good in itself, but the rest of the surveyed are against closure of such schools, even if they preach anti-Western sentiments. The same article also quotes Nico Landman, an expert on Islam, who suggests the survey probably provides a flattered image of reality, since the survey was done by computer and probably reached a disproportionate amount of well-educated and somewhat secularized Muslims.
Nice.
May I suggest that the people from Group 1 have a long and hearty conversation with the people from Group 2?

Your best bet would be www.systransoft.com which offers free Dutch-English translation. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to translate all the Dutch articles I find myself. I try to provide English language articles where available, and of course I will always summarize any Dutch articles in English, as I've done above.

Muslims in favor of closing radical schools

Almost seventy percent of Dutch muslims say islamitic schools should be closed if lessons propagate anti-western sentiments. The remainder are against closure, even if schools teach radical ideas. This is the result of a survey by the Dutch Institute for Public Opinion and Market Research (NIPO) as published by Dutch broadsheet Trouw last Saturday. The survey was conducted before the murder of Theo van Gogh.

Less than three in ten Dutch muslims (28 percent) feel that their religion contributes positively to society and politics. One in twenty muslims (5 percent) associates the word 'islam' with fundamentalism, attacks and extremism. Another result of the survey shows that christians judge islam more negatively than the other way round.

Nico Landman, an Islam expert from Utrecht, moderates the outcome of the survey. The participants answered the survey questions on a computer. "This means that the participants are probably well educated and secularized". Nevertheless, a score of almost seven in ten Muslims in favor of closing radical islamitic schools is higher than Landman expected.

Actually, they're deactivated, to allow for Movable Type to autoconvert url's into a href's. I'm trying to get the 'Allowed html codes' out of the template. Please bear with us while we try to control our Technology Related Anger...

I can't fix it. I've asked the ZE web mistress to solve the problem when she comes online.
